|| The Minamoto, an ancient family from Doma, was one of the raen clans that rose above status and established their roots with many illustrious members. With the meanings of “origin”, “root” and “source” to their surname, the dependable swordsmen from the clan maintained their military status serving Doma’s royalty for eras. Minamoto no Hayabusa followed his ancestors’ path and was a loyal samurai to Kaien Hijin while his wife, the hingan Yatsurugi no Kana, took great care of their daughters, Rin and Shuu.Both the girls were taught arts of suiboku-ga, playing shamisen and dancing with fans. Raised to be two perfect maidens, Rin and Shuu excelled to impress their relatives. Though it wasn’t enough to the oldest of the siblings, Rin, for she wanted a more adventurous life, rather than just sitting and playing instruments to please her family. The raen girl wished to become a samurai just like her father, to protect her homeland like he always did. Hayabusa understood how much she appreciated and admired him, though he couldn’t just allow his little girl to live a dangerous life.Though he denied to take his daughter as an apprentice, he couldn’t lock away Rin’s free spirit, nor could stop her from convincing others to become her mentors. Secretly, she practiced, escaping the Minamoto estate to spy the samurais and try to reproduce their techniques alone. It's enough said she hadn’t no progress on her own. Twas only after the biggest trouble of her life that Rin found a teacher that could grow some discipline on her.After one of her adventures, exploring Doma’s territory to it’s extent, she found a girl her age named Yugiri playing with a boy named Shun – little did she knew that it was Kaien Rijin’s very own son, and the man she would swear to protect with her life. The three of them were saved by Gosetsu Daito, a roegadyn and Lord Kaien’s retainer, that agreed to teach a little of the samurai’s path to the auri lass.
The courageous daughter of the Minamoto grew up to be a loyal swordswoman, but her family hasn’t allowed her to serve both Kaien and his son Hien in the Doman Liberation Front. After the fall of Doma and Hayabusa’s death on the battlefield, Rin the traveled with Yugiri to Eorzea in seek of shelter to her mother and sister, carrying the katana of her late father as a promise that she would help saving her homeland. She took the lead to help her family, swearing that no harm would fall over those she held dear, and so the young lady was ready to fight for hers and all the other refugee’s lives.After establishing her family at Mor Dhona, Rin looked for some kind of work to herself. For a while, she served Rowena as a delivery girl. Still a newbie samurai and with no experience on the field, the older Minamoto sibling knew she wouldn’t be useful at battles. Then, she traveled to Ul’dah, competing with gladiators, trying to sharpen her sword kills and to gather some gil to her family. Rin couldn’t grow her roots in the “jewel of the desert”, she explained. The doman people awaited for her.She was beyond glad that Yugiri led them to a safe place. After a while, they reunited with Gosetsu, her former teacher. Following the events, the doman trio traveled from Eorzea to the far east; Rin couldn’t help but be hit by nostalgia while visiting their homeland by the side of her friends. And nor could she hold her tears when Hien was found alive at the Azim’s Steppe, safe and sound by the care of the Mol tribe.Rin needed to train and sharpen her skills. She was stubborn enough to beg for Gosetsu to train her as a samurai once again. The au ra participated in the battle at Doma Castle, helping the Namai villagers, rather than invading the inner part of the castle, getting assured that everyone was safe. After knowing of her master’s sacrifice, the auri woman swore to honor his memories and all he had taught her, just like she was doing to her father’s. ❞
One of Rin’s biggest reliefs was to know Gosetsu was still alive – yet, with a bittersweet taste on her mouth, since she found that Yotsuyu, the woman that tried to kill her master and that ruled Doma with cruelty, was alive as well. She took care of “Tsuyu” and Gosetsu at the same time. It was also a surprise for her to have mourned for Tsuyu, something that she’d never thought she’d do.The raen knew that there was nothing for her to do, she had to let her master go and live as wandering monk, it was his own choice. Rin too had to start her own path now that Doma was rescued and the war was over; and she still had a lot of fight left within her. After helping the Ala Mhigan Resistance, Hien allowed the Minamoto to leave the doman ranks after he saw Rin overworking herself to help rebuild the Doman Enclave. As a ronin, all she did was to travel.
While the Warrior of Light was away after being summoned to The First, she helped Tataru Taru and Krile Baldesion the way she could amidst her travels. Despite being not skilled with magick, the young raen did what she could to provide help. A free bird, with no strings attached, ready to fight where she was needed the most. Ever so dutiful and taking her issues with a serious demeanor.No matter how many tragedies seemed to follow her, just like fallen petals of a red spider lily, and how much she mourned her losses. “There are things we can’t control”, she whispers, hiding how much it still hurts and how much the war still haunts her. Minamoto no Rin is ready to bloom and become a reliable fighter, the same way her ancestors were. And the same way her honored father was. ❞
